Slivenamon: 3rd May 2001

Sliabh na mBa (Slievenamon) is a magnificent, solitary mountain 2,364 feet high, rising above the Golden Vale – in the southeast corner of County Tipperary.

Woven into folklore and song, Sliabh na mBan features in the legends of Fion mac Cumhail (Finn McCool), who was enchanted here by ancient fairy women, and of a race up the mountain for his hand in marriage.

We have friends, Judy and Christopher, who live across from the mountain and watch the daily drama of ever-shifting light from their house.

This first sequence, was shot on medium format film – one frame every 20 to 30 minutes – and gives some idea of how much the weather changes here over the course of a single day.
