On the road…

Travelling takes up time, and for the duration puts you in a sort of limbo, outside time and place, a mobile capsule en route from one country to another.

But there is always a sense of trajectory and transition, of departure and anticipated arrival, that frames all those fragmented moments along the road when we register where we are.

Somehow the character of a journey emerges from the sum of those fragments. Elements of it become familiar through repetition, while the whole is coloured by the weather and the time of year.

This first set of on-the-road photos captures one journey, from the centre of France to Paris, by the A77 motorway, around Paris on the outer ring-road, La Francilliene, and on to the Channel Tunnel.
