Hanging around

Who counts the time we spend hanging around for boats, trains and planes in all the waiting rooms and no-mans-lands of modern life?

Strange non-places, where we walk aimlessly about, wrap ourselves in little bubbles of isolation trying to contain our impatience and anxiety, or stare out of the window avoiding contact with other people.

In contrast, think of all the great places where you can hang out, rather than just hang around. One of my favourites, included in this set of images, is the rooftop Members' Room at Tate Modern, London.
